About Us
Who are the Wyrd Sisters and how do you say that anyway?
The Wyrd Sisters are also known as “The Three Fates” or “The Norns” in both Scandinavian and Greek mythology. Three women spin, measure or weave, and cut the thread of a person’s life. Shakespeare wrote them into Macbeth; Terry Pratchett wrote a Disc World novel called The Wyrd Sisters. Its seems our three sisters have had quite a long and illustrious history!
Wyrd Sisters, purveyors of yarns and such, are mostly one person. Me, who has apparently taken to referring to herself in the third person. There is at least one other Wyrd sister involved with the store and two Wyrd brothers.
Our Proprietress has a PhD in anthropology and taught college classes in both anthropology and women’s studies for a good long stretch of time. Her craftiness was inherited from both mother and grandmother, and thus has been a major part of said Proprietress’ life for a long, long time. At some recent point in time the idea of opening a yarn store seemed A Perfectly Reasonable One. So here we go. Come on down and sit a spell. The terrible coffee is on us.
Wonder what our store is like? Take a peek at our videos on YouTube!
How do you pronounce “Wyrd?” It’s pronounce “weird.” Creative pronunciation will most definitely be welcomed at the shop!
